Hello friends,
Writing with a quick update — I’m deferring my first year in the MFA to work on a wine book (deadline in spring 2022!!) and finish a few other projects. California, it turns out, is a great place to be during the grape harvest. I’ll be working a few harvests around the Bay Area + am hoping to do other wine book research in central California, too. I’m based in Oakland for the year and am already loving all the light and redwoods. Please let me know if you’re around here; you can help me with my ‘research’ (ie, drinking good wine on a porch or patio somewhere in this wonderful city). I also welcome any reading + watching + scholar recommendations on the following topics: memory, taste, the senses, agricultural labor, fine dining, food and climate change…. or anything related to wine! For example, a friend recommended Diane Ackerman’s A Natural History of the Senses, and it’s been a fantastic/relevant read.
This amorphous occasional newsletter continues to be both, but I may test out some wine book ideas in here over the next few months… let me know if you’d be interested in reading draft thoughts!
I leave you with two photos of cacti, which make me feel very much at home.
love,
Meg
